Edo-Tokyo Open-Air Architectural Museum -2

Now, after two New Year’s holiday fill-in-the-blanks articles, I would like to introduce the end of my photo walk at Edo Tokyo Tatemono-en in Koganei, following last year.

Inside a liquor store over the cash register on “Shitamachi Naka-dori Street.”

I marveled at the faithful recreation (at least it looked like it to me) of an early Showa-era shopping scene.

I even remember the “Insecticide signboard” and the man in the photo is the singer Hiroshi Mizuhara, who sang “Black Petals” in the “Kohaku(New Year Eve Singing Contest)”. The Showa era has truly come a long way.

This is the residence of Korekiyo Takahashi, who served as Prime Minister and Minister of Finance before World War II. This is the “real” house, which has been moved and restored.

As a histrical fact, on February 26, 1936, Minister of Finance Takahashi was assassinated on the second floor of this very private residence. R.I.P.

The porch of the Takahashi residence. I felt the passage of time in the withered leaves of the maple trees.

This is a slightly dated 1942 Maekawa Kunio (architect) residence.

The exterior of the house is a Japanese-style two-story house, but the atrium living room is so modern that it would not be out of place if it were said to be a model room for a modern home.

Built in 1937, Tokiwadai Photo Studio is an another modern structure.

The “business” part of the photo studio’s interior is as high-caliber as this…

The Japanese-style room in the living area was a familiar “Yes, it was” design to me.

In any case, there is no sense of compromise or cutting corners in recreating “back in the day” in any part of the park. This bonnet bus is also quite a valuable item, but I’m numb to the Meiji Vita milk on the bench that accompanies it.
Well,
I have been shooting at the Open-Air Museum with my Panasonic Lumix G99, Leica DG12-60, and Leica DG8-18, and so far, I have been taking pictures of Tokyo in the Taisho and Showa periods. In the next article, I will introduce buildings of “Edo” period.
