Finally went to Miro exhibiton

I had been meaning to visit the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum (TMAM) in Ueno for their special exhibition, “The Miro Exhibition,” but before I knew it, the exhibition was about to end, so I hurried over.

I feel like I’ve been coming to Ueno to see art exhibitions all the time lately, so maybe I’m becoming an art connoisseur?

I wondered if that was really the case, so I searched this blog as a diary, and found that I did indeed come to see the Isson Tanaka last fall and the Matisse last summer (both at TMAT), but that was only about once every six months, so I apologize I’m definitely not an art connoisseur.

It’s still June, but it’s already as hot as summer at the TMAT on a certain day.

I’m far from being an art connoisseur, but even so, compared to before I started taking photos as a hobby, my interest in painting has definitely increased several times over. Seeing excellent paintings is undoubtedly inspiring in terms of how to view objects, how to perceive light, and how to consider composition.

This may be self-serving, but a few years ago, I wrote something like this.

構図のお勉強 ”構図がわかれば絵画がわかる”

However, however.

This Miro exhibition was quite challenging from that “how to” perspective. Simply put, “I don’t get it.”

I stood in front of the exhibited works feeling completely lost. I could sense a certain kind of energy, but I couldn’t put it into words. There were things that drew me in despite not understanding them, and others that just didn’t resonate with me at all, causing my mood to fluctuate wildly.

Compared to this confusion, I feel like I could express my feelings more easily when faced with abstract paintings by Mondrian or Rothko.

In any case, I took one “I was there” photo on the floor where photography was permitted.

With the Leica DG SUMMILUX 15mm on the GF10, I thought the lens might be overkill, but it actually produces a nice sense of depth. I’ll definitely keep using it as a valuable bright wide-angle lens.

Miro was a bit challenging for me, but of course I enjoyed it thoroughly and got my money’s worth.
