LUMIX G VARIO 35-100mm F4-5.6

I acquired the LUMIX G VARIO35-100, a telephoto zoom lens in micro four thirds mount, and took some test shots with it.

It is one of the most inexpensive lenses in the G series, but I know it well because I used to use it before. Once I had to give it up to finance the acquisition of other equipment, but I came to want a small telephoto lens again, that could be used with the Lumix GF10, so I reacquired it the other day (I was able to buy a used one at a very low price, which was a big help).

I wondered how it would look like when attached to the GF10. I took some pictures while I was out on the town.

This was taken in a park on a day when the weather suddenly turned cold and wintery.

This is a Micro Four Thirds lens with a maximum aperture of f/4 to f/5.6, so it is not a lens where you expect bokeh. However, it is a telephoto lens, so it is possible to create this level of post-blur. The bokeh of the wire mesh does not look strangely rough, and I think it is straightforward and beautiful.

I took another shot of a fallen leaf on a plantation in a vertical composition to check the bokeh effect.
This is another modest blur, but the feeling is still not bad. It’s OK.

I’ll have to try shooting at a smaller aperture. Here’s one looking up at the valley of the skyscrapers.
Dreary weather is not a bad thing when photographing inorganic subjects like this. I think you have captured a tight and hard picture.

Here is one more photo. It’s hard to explain, but I thought the colorful pipe-like building structure was interesting in a slightly near-future-ish.

This lens is not bad for a picture taken at a narrower aperture. I mean, it takes nice, crisp pictures that you wouldn’t expect from a popular class of lens.

I chose the “silver” lens, which is more readily available than the used “black” lens, but this combination might not be so bad.

Above all, it’s pocketable size and lightness belies its size, making it the strongest lightweight compact telephoto SLR when used with the GF10.

I use the K-3III as my main camera and the G99 as a sub-machine, but I have a feeling that the GF10 will have more opportunities to be used as a third camera in the future.
