Plum or cherry blossoms?

I am at Hamarikyu Garden, continuing from the previous article.

The title of this article is half a lie. I apologize for spoiling the seasonal atmosphere of flowers, but on this day in Tokyo, the cherry blossoms had not yet bloomed. Although it may not be well known, Hamarikyu has a magnificent ume (Japanese apricot) garden, and I was able to enjoy the flowers and fragrance here.

There are many varieties of plum trees, and the branches and flowers in plum orchards vary. Some of them can be mistaken for cherry blossoms in terms of color and shape.

One of the visitors to the plum orchard that day was an elderly man who was merrily humming Kouta, a traditional Japanese tune that I may or may not have heard before.

“Plum or cherry blossoms?  Cherry or plum blossoms?”

I thought to myself, “Oh, it’s quite nice to hear such an elegant elderly person singing Kouta!”

Incidentally, I was taught by an acquaintance how to tell the difference between cherry and plum blossoms.

-Plum blossoms have rounded petals that stick to the branch.
-Cherry blossoms bloom on a thin shaft coming out of the branch with a slit at the tip of the petal.

According to the theory of a friend of mine, these are definitely “plums” in terms of shape and bloom….

All lenses used in this article are LUMIX S20-60mm.

The combination with the LUMIX S5 is really light. It feels good to have a solid focus and the reproduction of subtle floral colors is also very good. We can get a fair bokeh at a half-way aperture, and I would say that this is a full-size camera. But it is a dark standard zoom, so it is not a “beautiful bokeh”.

Other than the plum blossoms, I was attracted to the bear grass bushes along the way and took this photo.

I like this Kumazasa, which seems to be cluttered and overgrown, but has a strange sense of rhythm.

Also, speaking of Hamarikyu, my favorite is this composition. The skyscrapers in the background contrast nicely with the Japanese garden.

If the sky was blue and the water surface was calm, the picture would be even more impressive, but this is about the extent of the picture on this day.

So I enjoyed the rape blossoms and plum blossoms on my walk around Hamarikyu Garden. Then I was exposed to pollen for a long time, so I had to take a good shower when I got home.
