It would have been a shame to come to Shinjuku Gyoen after a long absence and return home only to take pictures of Higanbana(Red spider lily), so although I had no particular plan in mind, I did some walking around to take pictures.
For example, this one. It is a “minor” plant often planted at the foot of roadside trees, but in the Gyoen, it is treated as the “main” plant with its own name tag, and I learned that it has a splendid name, Yaburan.
The shadows created by the sidelight accentuated the image and made it look quite attractive.
A mushroom poked its head out in the middle of this lawn.
There is no name tag or anything on this one, but something about it was so endearing that I just had to take a picture of it.
I switched to a standard lens and took this garden scene over the silver grass that was just starting to sprout.
The Docomo Yoyogi building across the middle island from the bridge over the pond.
This strange (pardon the pun) building is a so-called office building with machine rooms and the like up to the 25th floor, and from there up is the antenna equipment spire, which is a structure with exterior walls attached to a steel frame.
While wandering around the park, I couldn’t help but take a picture.
I have an unusual fondness for scenes like this, where the sun shines through the trees and brightens one spot in the forest, and I can’t resist releasing the shutter even when the scenery is plain and unremarkable.
This is the fruit of Murasakishikibu tree before it has fully colored. Murasaki in Japanese means purple, and Murasakishikibu is a name after famous medieval female literary figure.
This is the first time I’ve seen this plant seriously in this state of coloration. The light color is somewhat primitive.
It’s been a while since I took a walk in Shinjuku Gyoen Park, and although it only lasted about 2 hours, it was deeply enjoyable.
Finally, I would like to show you another photo.
It had been a long time since the Gyoen, but it had also been a super long time since Shinjuku’s pedestrian paradise. I haven’t been to Corona since, no joke, it’s been about 10 years since I’ve walked down Shinjuku street on a Sunday. I don’t know why I had been away from the street for so long.
So, this is the story of a man taking a picture of Higanbana and walking from the Gyoen to Shinjuku HOKOTEN.
