“Buaiso” museum in Machida, Tokyo -2

This is a continuation of the story of my visit to the former residence of Jiro Shirasu, Buaiso.

This is the view from the entrance of the main building, which is now open to the public as a museum, looking back toward the front gate.

What a beautiful early autumn scene with the trees beginning to change color against the blue sky!

In the photo above, the restaurant in the left foreground is open, with a long queue of customers. There are also a number of other buildings labeled “Bar&Gallery” and “Cafe” in the brochure, but both of them seemed to be closed. None of the buildings looked very old, but I could not tell if they had been added in later years or if the original buildings had been remodeled.

The view from our table when we entered the restaurant.

I liked that it wasn’t a tactless motorized device to call the table attendant.

Outside the window was a terrace under a wisteria trellis. I’m not sure if it is actually operational.

The Cafe outside the front gate is open-air and features Jiro’s (?) car. Old cars and photos from yesteryear are on display.

As expected of Jiro Shirasu, the Showa era’s outstanding man, what a cool way to live in the countryside.

Let’s upload a few more photos from the collection to liven things up.

A residence of elegance where talented people live quietly at a short distance from the capital. The period, people, buildings, cultural background, and everything else are very different, but perhaps it is because the house moderately reflects the antique connoisseur Masako Shirasu’s tastes that I feel so. It reminded me of Shisen-do in Kyoto. Not ambitious, but not secluded either, just a life in the field, enjoying and fulfilling life based on one’s own sense of values. Such a quiet image.

I grew up in the city, so a life in the countryside is absolutely impossible for me, but I envy him because he looks so cool.

I know that the above is probably just my imagination and misunderstanding, but it was a visit to Buaiso that made me think about such things.
