Early February, I went for a photo walk in Shinjuku Gyoen.
My goal was to photograph the cold cherry blossoms that had just started blooming, but I’ll save that for the next post. Even though I’ve visited countless times, I realized this was actually my first time coming here in the evening, so I decided to try capturing the garden’s sunset scenery.
The setting sun reflecting off the large greenhouse and the winter blue sky. Beautiful.
It was just before 4:00 PM. Since the park closes at 4:30 PM during winter, the number of people remaining inside was already sparse.
I found the shadows cast by the tall, slender trees to be profoundly evocative.
The Yoyogi Docomo Tower, which can seem rather uninspiring during the day, takes on a mysterious presence when silhouetted against the evening sky.
The early winter sunsets, the earlier closing time, and the climate that quickly thins out the crowds all combined to create a uniquely atmospheric photo I hadn’t quite anticipated. For an impromptu idea, sticking around until just before closing turned out to be a smart move on my part. Even the same sunset scene will feel different as the seasons change, so I’d like to try it again if I get the chance.
Well then, in the next article, I’ll introduce photos of the early spring flowers, which were my original reason for visiting.
