Since I’m posting while completely relaxed during my leisurely year-end/New Year’s break, I’ll keep it brief.
Just wanted to mention that the photo exhibition currently running at the Canon Gallery in Shinagawa is pretty amazing, so I highly recommend it.
CHASING GRACE by Minoru Kobayashi, a master of automotive photography
While the dazzling photos of luxury cars, seemingly for automaker promotions, are undeniably captivating, I was utterly overwhelmed by the sheer power and intensity of the motorsports photos—specifically, the racing cars tearing across the track.
This is a comment from a complete outsider and amateur, but “How can the focus be this sharp in such a high-speed scene!?”
Unbelievably sharp focus. And it’s not just “frozen” in a still frame; you feel the sheer power of the car racing at breakneck speed, and the driver’s intense concentration is palpable. What a photographic magic!
Is this Kobayashi’s magic, or Canon’s magic?
The exhibition runs until February 3rd, so I highly recommend it not only for enthusiasts but also for those, like me, who aren’t as familiar with this world.
Even someone as uninformed as me could gauge Mr. Kobayashi’s reputation by the sheer number of celebratory flower arrangements outside the venue.
At the adjacent venue, an exhibition of top-ranked works from a photo contest among amateur car racing photography enthusiasts. The exhibition period overlaps significantly with the one above.
This photo exhibition also featured quite a collection of impressive works.
If I hadn’t seen Mr. Kobayashi’s photo exhibition first, I would have been thoroughly impressed. After all, Mr. Minoru Kobayashi is the head judge for this photo contest, so I got the order wrong (lol).
