X’mas Market in Marunouchi street

A friend invited me to stroll through the Christmas market on Marunouchi Naka-dori. Since it was just a casual walk, I figured a bulky camera wouldn’t be ideal. The gear I brought was my small LUMIX GF10 and the Leica DG SUMMILUX 15mm F1.7 lens, ready for the low light at dusk.

We started our walk along Marunouchi Naka-dori from around Yurakucho, where redevelopment of old buildings is underway.

In Tokyo at this time of year, sunset approaches even after 4 PM, and the illuminations are growing brighter.

Strolling down the chic and stylish Nakadori Street lifts my spirits, but I can feel the temperature dropping rapidly as the sun sets. It’s getting quite chilly.

This is a statue of Michael Leitch, a member of the Japanese national rugby team. He doesn’t look too cold.

But seriously, roses were blooming beautifully in the plaza next to Mitsubishi Ichigokan in this temperature. Hats off to the incredible gardening skills.

As night falls, the vibrant market stalls come alive with bustling activity.

The destination for today’s walk was Marunouchi Plaza in front of Tokyo Station. It’s a familiar sight, but the photogenic illumination of the station building just makes me want to take pictures.

A happy discovery: even the GF10 can take pretty decent night photos if I use a bright lens.

And so, that wraps up our stroll through the Marunouchi Naka-dori Christmas Market.

This will be the last blog post of 2025. I’ll be taking a short break over New Year’s, but I look forward to your continued support next year.
