The 59th view of Utagawa Hiroshige’s “100 Famous Views of Edo” is Sakasai ferry. Here is the original picture.
Despite the intense summer heat, I had hoped it would ease up a bit after mid summer Obon, so I ventured out to the old Nakagawa River in Ojima, Koto Ward, for some long-awaited “100 view” photography. But I was in for a surprise. With my lack of physical stamina, it was a close battle with heatstroke.
Here is the modern “Sakasai ferry” photos (with no ferry) I managed to take, .
If I could have waited until a single waterbird or a small boat appeared, the photo would have looked a bit better, but the temperature was a bit too high to stay and wait.
The nearest station is Higashi-Ojima on the Subway Shinjuku Line. I only had an old image of it in my mind, but it had been renovated with modern glass walls, so I couldn’t help but take a photo.
This area is a wide park along both banks of the river. There were people playing baseball and tennis, but with the heat, I couldn’t help but worry about them.
However, there was a nice breeze blowing on the bridge over the river, and when I looked up at the sky, the clouds seemed to have a slight hint of autumn. Perhaps the seasons are slowly but surely changing.
