Missed a swing at Shiokaze Park

As I’ve mentioned several times on this blog, I’ve been thinking about photographing industrial port landscapes for the past few months. However, all the ports in Tokyo are very well-organized, so it’s hard to find places where outsiders can enter and take photos of container terminals or factory material transport ships at the wharves.

While staring at Google Maps, wondering what to do, I suddenly had an idea. Even if I can’t access the wharf itself, there might be a spot across the bay where I can take photos with a telephoto lens, right?

Specifically, there seems to be a park above the underwater tunnel near Odaiba, so from there, I might be able to target the Shibaura Wharf and Oi Thermal Power Plant across the bay.

From a directional perspective, there seems to be a chance to capture the sunset sky as a backdrop. Thinking that it would be better to wait until the evening to avoid the intense heat of the day, I decided to head out at dusk on a clear day and visit Shiokaze Park, which I had spotted on the map above.

However, this turned out to be a double failure.

First, I misread the sky and clouds gathered while I was on my way, and the sunset sky disappeared.

The second, even bigger mistake was that the park’s perimeter was fenced off due to construction work, so I couldn’t take photos of the opposite shore.

I didn’t do enough research beforehand, and it seems that this has been the case since around May of this year due to long-term construction work.

It’s frustrating to just give up and go home. I decided to use the transparent fence that allows a small view of Tokyo Bay to scout the location and take a few photos through the fence, and then come back another time.

Hmm, it seems like a place where you could take some interesting photos, but this time it was a bust.
I’ll definitely come back here once the construction is finished.
