JR Iida line short trip -2 Tamoto

The Iida Line is sometimes called a “Hidden gem line”. This is because the line was opened after a difficult construction project in a steep valley, some of its stations are not easy to visit other than by train, with no roads nor villages nearby, and has very few users today.

Tamoto Station, which we will visit this time, is one of these hidden gem stations.

A narrow platform clings to a steep cliff.

Where will I go if I get off at this station? How will I get to this station?

The only passage leading to the outside world.

After climbing the stairs, the path ahead is like this.

Or rather, this atmosphere is a mountain path.

To be honest, I had done some research beforehand and knew that if I walked a little further I could cross a suspension bridge and get to the other side of the river, but the path was so overgrown and the slope was steeper than I expected, so I got a bit scared that I might not make it back in time for my train and turned back at the station (lol).

I only stayed here for a short time, but if it hadn’t been a bright, sunny day, I think I would have felt like I was stranded at this mountain station and it would have been scary.

When the return train came from the other side of the tunnel, I felt a little relieved.

So, that was the story of my visit to the mysterious station of Tamoto.
From here, I’ll head back to Tenryu-kyo Station to take a breather, and then head to my final destination for today’s photo walk.

The station that is said to be a mysterious station that rivals Tamoto will be a surprise for you next time.
