The 53rd of Utagawa Hiroshige’s “100 Famous Views of Edo” is “The Evening Shower over Atake, Ohashi Bridge”, and the original painting is here.
At last, the one that had to come out has come out. This is a masterpiece that is highly acclaimed as the best of the 100 Views of Edo. This is the landscape that is known for having been copied by Van Gogh. Of course, it is impossible to recreate it as a modern landscape, but I thought that at least I should try to capture it on a rainy day, so I went out in the rain to the foot of the Shin-Ohashi Bridge to take a picture.
I’m sorry.
I’m really sorry, I don’t know what to say to excuse myself.
Even if you can’t “imitate”, the angle of view is very different. You should have taken it from a little further back with a wide-angle lens, but you were probably so upset that you didn’t even notice that on the spot.
Incidentally, the Shin-Ohashi Bridge looks like this.
In order to capture the scenery on the other side of the bridge, I had to take a bird’s-eye view from a slightly elevated position, but both options – taking a photo from a high-rise office building nearby or from the shoulder of the Metropolitan Expressway as it crosses the sky – are both crimes if done without permission, so as a regular guy I had no choice but to do it. Hmmm…
Also, the key to this work is the expression of the strong raindrops trailing down the river, but this could have been partially shown if a day with even stronger rain had been chosen and the buildings on the opposite bank had been used as a background with a telephoto lens.
In any case, this time, “I went on a day with light rain and took some photos, but they turned out a complete disaster”. On the way back, with my head down and not saying much, I took some pictures of the flowers in Hamacho Park to distract myself from my disappointment.
