While I was working through various pieces of equipment, I got a new camera by chance and some momentum.
This camera has two different designations, G9M2 and G9PROII, on the manufacturer’s website and various retailers’ websites, which are not very consistent. I think the name of the model as the manufacturer is DC-G9M2, and the trademark that appeals to customers is G9PROII.
According to Panasonic, the DC-G9M2 is a “flagship still-image camera” in micro four thirds mount. So, I’ll adopt the G9PROII, which seems to have more of a sense of “being a flagship and not just an ordinary camera.”
I found a good used one at Kitamura Camera, so I asked them to order it from a nearby store and checked it out. I traded in the DC-G99 and some lenses I had on hand for the DC-G99, and the difference was surprisingly small,
So, I bought it.
Kitamura, I don’t think the selling price is often lower or higher than other stores (personal opinion), but it is great to be able to order used items from around the country to a store near you to touch and see.
In addition to the fact that the G9PROII’s functions and performance as catalog specs are definitely one or more ranks higher than those of the G99 I had been using, the operability of the G9PROII is also quite good.
The reason why I know it is good before I use it is because it uses almost the same type of housing as the Lumix S5 that I use together, and the buttons and dials are very similar, so I can set up the controls just like the S5, which is extremely easy to use. This is convenient.
On the other hand, the fact that it is the same as the full-size S5 also means that it is unnecessarily large for a micro four thirds camera, and it is naturally larger and heavier than the G99. Hmmm.
It was hard to make a black-and-white judgment on the merits and demerits, and I had been wondering about replacing it for a long time, but this time, momentum prevailed.
It was released last fall, so it is not a “new product” in the market, but I guess they are trying hard to promote it in various ways, and there are still review sites like this one on the Internet, which are very informative and stimulating for me as I am just starting to use it, even though the review articles are a bit lantern-like. I find it very informative and stimulating.
However, due to the summer heat and typhoons, I haven’t been able to use the actual device at all yet. I will gradually write about my impressions after using it, but first of all, here is an article that says “I’ve got a flagship device”.
