LUMIX S 24-105mm F4 / Test shooting

While I was heartbroken by the news of torrential rain disasters in various parts of Japan, Tokyo and the Kanto region experienced a heat wave with a rather dry rainy season, which was severe in its own way. I was finally able to go out to take test shots of my new lens during a break in the rain.

I took the LUMIX S 24-105mm F4 lens for test shooting at Shinagawa Kumin Park.

This is a peaceful evening view of a holiday tennis court, but the heavy overcast sky gave the shot some kind of disturbing atmosphere. I stopped down to f/16 at the wide end 24mm, and both the center and the four corners were crisp and tight. I focused on the “Tennis Courts” sign, but I think I may have helped create a disturbing atmosphere by using too tight a focus.

The f/4 maximum aperture is not suitable for creating bokeh, but if you use a zoom lens in the medium telephoto range, you can create a decent amount of bokeh.

I took this shot at 72mm f/4. I thought it was a safe bokeh without being obnoxious. I wish I had chosen a flower with a better shape as the main subject, sorry.

The lens has a wide zoom range, and it works well whether the subject is out of focus or stopped down, so it is easy to use. My prior expectation of a highly reliable and versatile standard zoom was correct.

I was able to take whatever I wanted while walking in the park, but I didn’t want to just take a bunch of random shots. So I’ll introduce some photos taken at the wide end and telephoto end with different apertures, as I thought would be appropriate. I took these pictures easily by hand, so please forgive me if the compositions of the pictures on the left and right sides of the slide are slightly off.

Next, 105mm F4-F8 & F8-F16 comparison at the telephoto end

Well, I’m not sure what I should be looking at after posting this.

And after this, I was thinking about various things, such as trying macro photography, and also wanting to try out the SIGMA 17mm DG DN, which I had brought along with me,

And here comes the rainfall.

Even though the camera body and lens are drip-proof, I felt that it would be a shame to take my first shots in the rain, so I decided to end the test shooting at this point. We had to leave early.

Our fight begins here!
