Irises in Koishikawa Korakuen Garden

I heard that the iris fields at Korakuen are about to reach their peak blooming season, so I decided to go check them out. Before the rainy season starts and makes it difficult to take photos, I wanted to get some good shots for my blog.

In 2020, the restoration of the Karamon within the park was completed, and the east gate near JR Suidobashi Station is now open at all times, making it much more convenient.

I thought I had had my fill of this year’s irises at Horikiri the other day, but when I came to the fields here in full bloom, I got so excited that I decided to give it another go.

The standout performers for this iris photography session were the LUMIX G9 Pro II and the Leica DG SUMMILUX 15mm F1.7 and Leica DG MACRO-ELMMART 45mm F2.8 lenses.

First, the 15mm wide-angle lens (equivalent to FF 30mm) worked well.

With a medium telephoto lens (90 mm in FF 35mm), you can gradually zoom in on the same plant.

Or you can enjoy the delicate colors and patterns of different flowers.

You can also enjoy a glimpse of the performance of a macro lens.

When using the G9proII, I tend to rely on reliable zoom lenses (such as the Leica DG 12-60mm or Leica DG 50-200mm), but occasionally using a sharp prime lens like this reminds me of the unique qualities of prime lenses.

The location being what it is, the loud cheers of people enjoying the thrill rides at the amusement park somewhat detract from the atmosphere, but since sound doesn’t show up in photos, I’ll just have to accept it.

There’s still more to shoot at Koishikawa Korakuen, but I’ll save that for next time.
