Year End Chinatown

It was a winter holiday, but I was just lying around and skipping out on lots of things, so I didn’t get many photos. This time, I’m going to make do with some unimportant snaps from a shopping trip to Yokohama’s Chinatown at the end of the year.

It’s objectively unimportant, but for me, whenever I come to Chinatown, I always have a special time that makes my heart flutter. That exciting feeling when you go through the Zenrin Gate or the Tencho Gate.

Even when you squeeze in a short lunch break between work, it’s a luxury to be able to shop at your leisure during your holiday.

However, it’s also true that there’s not much time to relax and enjoy the happy feeling in the hustle and bustle of the town.

It’s not that there are particularly large crowds at the end of the year, but I think it’s amazing that this is usually the case every time I come here.

Even so, if you go around to a few shops with a clear idea of what you want to buy, the crowds inside the shops aren’t that bad, and you can enjoy the atmosphere of Chinatown in a relaxed way.

Sweets, steamed buns, Chinese tea… I think you can probably get these things in Tokyo without having to go all the way to Yokohama, but the fact that I came all the way here to buy them is in itself a form of entertainment.

Oh, I brought my GF10 with me, which is small and easy to handle, but I missed taking a photo of the table at my favorite Sichuan restaurant for lunch. Oh well.

Instead (but not instead of), the Kantei-byo temple.

When you’re walking around taking photos of Chinatown, you can’t help but take a lot of photos that are too bright and shiny, with lots of red and gold. At the end, why not stretch your legs a little and head to America-yama Park to lower your heart rate with a scene of a different flavor?

I was a little moved by the gardening techniques and effort that made the flowers bloom in the middle of winter, and by the hard work of the roses braving the cold and wind.

So, it’s the end of a filler article about a walk around the China Town and America-yama Park.
