Lime green leaves in Hongo

It’s still a bit early for the autumn leaves in Tokyo, but it’s been a bit chilly recently, so I thought the ginkgo might be changing color. With that in mind, I went to the Hongo Campus of the University of Tokyo.

The ginkgo trees along Hongo Street, which you walk along after getting off the subway station, are quite impressive, but they are still green and there is no sign of them changing color. As I was already regretting my mistake, I stepped into the university, and the campus seemed to be in a slightly different time zone from the outside world, with a hint of deepening autumn.

I don’t know which building it is in which faculty, but it’s a very atmospheric arcade.

The University of Tokyo campus was quiet on the day off, but it suddenly became lively as we passed through the arcade. Everyone was heading for the same place: the ginkgo-lined street in front of the Yasuda Auditorium.

It’s a little early to be called ‘yellow leaves’, but the leaves are definitely turning lime green. Unlike Hongo Street, the leaves are definitely changing color.

There are not many fallen leaves yet, but the children were playing by gathering them up.

The phrase “refreshing colors” may not be appropriate for the season, but it does look good on the red brick buildings here, doesn’t it?

So, that was the story of enjoying the lime green leaves.
The real fun is still a week away.
