Kanda Jimbocho to Shinjuku, Capa and Hoshi Sensei

I’m a little behind with this, but I’ll write about the photo walk at the end of October.

The annual Kanda Secondhand Book Festival was held in the Jimbocho area of Chiyoda Ward from the end of October to the beginning of November.

I didn’t have any particular books I was looking for, and the weather wasn’t that great, so I was vaguely thinking that I’d probably not go this year to avoid wasting money. However, I suddenly thought of another errand I needed to run in the city center, so I decided to drop in on the way.

Image (lol).

Even though I know I shouldn’t, when I get to the venue I can’t help but push my way through the crowds to have a look.

And then I found something like this and ended up buying it.

ロバート・キャパ スペイン内戦 - 岩波書店
内戦当初から最終局面までを共和国側で取材し,悲惨の中に苦悩する民衆兵士を個性ある人間として描く.

It’s heavy , and it’s expensive (although it’s almost half the price of a new book),
I complain to myself, but my face softens a little. Looking at the shelves and reaching out to grab a book is a pleasure that you can’t get online, and it’s the real joy of visiting bookstores.

That said, I only stopped by Jimbocho “on the way”. On this day, I didn’t stay long and moved towards Shinjuku, heading for the event venue that I was really aiming for.
Here it is.

No, the real reason for coming was to see the Tadami Line Photo Exhibition by local photographer Mr. Kenko Hoshi, which was being held at the same time as the products fair at the Hotel Lister Shinjuku. Last year, there was a similar event at this venue, and I was able to meet Mr. Hoshi in person. I wondered if he would be there this year…

I arrived in the early afternoon, and not only was he there, but he was in the middle of a witty talk session explaining the photos on display to the large number of visitors.

Everyone was taking photos with their smartphones, so I think they gave me tacit permission to take photos of the venue, but I don’t think I should just put them on my blog as they are. I’ll just use them as image photos.

I bought the photo book (signed by Mr. Hoshi) that was on sale at the venue. Thank you very much.

At the local products exhibition, I had a chance to chat with the Bandai Promotion Public Corporation from Bandai Town, who had just been on a photo walk the other day, and they told me how much fun they had. I bought some tomato puree made from locally grown tomatoes.

But still, Fukushima Prefecture is huge. Just thinking of the Aizu region, there’s Bandaimachi of the photo walk, the Tadami Line in Oku-Aizu, and also Aizu-wakamatsu city with Tsurugajo Castle, Kitakata city with its famous ramen, the summer resort of Urabandai, and Inawashiro with its lake and Ristor ski resort. It’s rich in variety, both in terms of tourist attractions and local products.

In addition to this, there is the Nakadori region of Koriyama and Fukushima, and the Hamadori region of Iwaki and Soma, so if you wanted to hold a full-scale products exhibition, it seems like you would need at least three Rister Shinjuku Hotels. Or rather, it would be a bit unreasonable to hold a products exhibition for the whole of Fukushima…

So, that was the photo walk from Jimbocho to Shinjuku, visiting Hoshi Sensei.
