#046 Shohei-bashi, Seido. Kanda River

The 46th scene of Utagawa Hiroshige’s “100 Famous Views of Edo” is Shohei-bashi, Seido. Kanda River, the original picture is here.

Here it is, “Rain” by artist Hiroshige. In the summer section of the “100 Views” series, rain scenes that showcase the artist’s technique appear frequently. For me, photographing rainy landscapes is quite a challenge, and the #46 view are also a source of concern.

The original picture is a distant from a bird’s eye view, which is a specialty of the artist, but unfortunately I could not find a place where I could take a bird’s eye view around the modern Shohei-bashi Bridge.

Ups! The distinctive Tsukiji-bei wall of Yushima Seido, which is supposed to be the main subject of the exhibition, is not visible at all because it is obstructed by the buildings along the Kanda River.

I wish you could see this.

This time I gave up a bit and stuck with it. I thought that if I looked down from the JR Sobu Line bridge that crosses over my head on Shoheibashi Bridge, I could get a bird’s eye view of the area and even see the Yushima Seido area.

Here’s how it turned out…

The Kanda River was out of the angle of view and was over Sotobori Dori, but I managed to capture the Tsukiji Wall over the truss of the railway bridge. I used the SIGMA 90mm DG DN F2.8 lens at this time, but if I had a more telephoto lens, I would have used it to get a little closer.

I mean, from the back of Shoheibashi Bridge, the cathedral wall does not look as big as in the original painting (lol). Either the position of Shohei-bashi Bridge or Yushima Seido has moved from the past to the present, or else Master Hiroshige painted it with a strong deformation.

This is not related to the subject, but I took some photos of the area to add to the excitement. This is a Chuo Line rapid train running through the brick elevated track by the Shohei-bashi Bridge.

I was lucky to be able to take this picture because the train was stopped for a while due to a fire along the line after this. However, the shutter speed was not adjusted to the train’s LED subtitle, unfortunately I did it again.

That’s all for the Hundred Scenery Walk with LUMIX S5, LUMIX S 20-60mm, and SIGMA 90mm DG DN.
