Wintersweets!

In this season when flowers are scarce, wintersweets are always the first to bring us lovely yellow flowers and fragrance. I went to a certain park in Shinagawa Ward to check on the blossoms, thinking that it was still a little early, but I found that the buds had swelled to their full size and begun to bloom.

I was so happy to see them that I decided to post some flower information rarely without any seasonal delay.

Normally, wintersweets bloom after the leaves have fallen (I learned this from overhearing the conversations of people who seemed to be gardening enthusiasts while taking pictures last year), but here they were beginning to bloom with some of the leaves still on them.

The seasonal cycle of temperatures and rainfall has been a little strange lately, so maybe that’s the reason for the change. However, for those of us who only take pictures while admiring the flowers, it is helpful to have some foliage left to add variety to the composition.

All the photos in this issue were taken with the PENTAX K-3III and the TAMRON 90mm lens. Although the K-mount version of the Tamron Q is now an older generation lens, its soft rendering and incomparable bokeh beauty are still first class.

The front bokeh is also beautiful.

The flowers have begun to bloom, but the fragrance is not so strong yet. When the flowers that are just about to bloom come into full bloom, that indescribable fragrance will be wafting around the area.

I think the peak is only a week or two away. Let’s hope we can afford to come back then to take more pictures.

That’s all I have to say, I was happy to see the waxwings in bloom.
