Brick Square

2-6-1, Marunouchi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, is the Marunouchi Brick Square, a commercial building (B1F to 4F) located between Marunouchi Naka-dori Avenue and Daimyo Koji Avenue. The high-rise Marunouchi Park Building, which is part of a larger complex, houses the headquarters of Mitsubishi Corporation and Nippon Steel Corporation, and is one of the Home of the so-called “Marunouchi office workers”, but it was Brick Square that I visited on this photo stroll.

It is an urban district with large buildings filling the block, and as the name “Square” implies, it is a unique structure with a small plaza built within the block. The entrance on the Marunouchi Nakadori Avenue side opens with this view.

I guess this is what you get when you build a “courtyard” in Marunouchi, the kind of thing you see in European cities.

Upon entering the building, visitors will be surprised to find that the courtyard is not just a mere garden, but a real courtyard, deep in greenery.

The old-fashioned brick Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum stands facing the courtyard, adding to the garden’s charm.

It’s just rose season.

I was very satisfied with this place because I was motivated to come here in the first place when I heard from an acquaintance that I could take a picture of a museum with roses and bricks in Marunouchi :-).

Looking up at the sky from the courtyard, I was struck by the mysterious sight of the brickwork and skyscrapers facing each other.

The museum was unfortunately changing exhibits that day, so a visit was not possible, but I would like to come back once to see it properly.

I didn’t include it in the photos on this blog because I thought it might distract from the image, but there are many restaurants with terrace seats facing the courtyard, which seems to be crowded with nearby office workers, business visitors, and tourists like me during lunch/tea time. This sense of openness must be rare in Marunouchi.

I took a peek at the menu, and found that the prices were dream breaking “Marunouchi level”.

One last time, I took a shot of the rose at my feet.

So, that was the Marunouchi Brick Square courtyard walk.
