For some reason, Pentax enthusiasts in Japan don’t seem to talk about it much, nor do magazine articles or news indexes seem to cover it, but the Pentaxians yearbook, a coterie photo book, has been released again this year.
What is the reason for the cold reception in the media and social networking sites?
To begin with, most of the participants in this coterie are professionals and amateurs from Europe and the U.S., mainly from Germany, and it is rare to see the names of Japanese photographers, not only in the photo book, but also in the posts on the coterie’s sites. Is there any special Political reason that I am unaware of?
Be that as it may, the quality and quantity of this year’s edition is also very impressive as a doujinshi photo collection. As I have mentioned before, both the subject matter and the picture-making are excellent, with qualities that are different from those of photographs taken in Japan.
Until last year, I had been content with the free downloadable version (PDF file), but this year, I had something in mind and applied to purchase the printed version of each book, from the first edition (2017) to the latest edition (2021). I am looking forward to receiving them, although it will be a long time before I have them in my hands since they will probably arrive by sea after a slow paperwork process.
However, I have a headache about where to put the bulky photo book in my small apartment:-).
