Summer retreat: Inawashiro Lake

I escaped the intense heat of Tokyo for just a few days. My destination was once again Inawashiro and Urabandai.

Visiting this summer retreat every year, I have a pretty set routine, but this year I decided to check out a new spot called “Roots Inawashiro.”

After exiting the Inawashiro IC on the Ban-Etsu Expressway, I headed south along the eastern shore of Inawashiro Lake. The spot is located just past Shida Beach, which is bustling with lake bathers, and was very easy to find. I visited for lunch at the restaurant, but there was also a glamping campground with sauna facilities and a SnowPeak outdoor brand shop.

The hamburger and other dishes for lunch were delicious and the back of the restaurant is right next to the lake. Although the sauna and glamping area is separated, you can walk around freely to some extent.

White sand and green pine trees along the lakeshore.

Thanks to the slight breeze, it was cool, but because of that, the lake surface was not as smooth as its nickname “Mirror Lake,” and canoeing looked a little difficult.

A touching scene borrowed from the backs of a mother and child.

The weather was clear, and I could see all the way to the opposite shore (the west shore of the lake). By the way, Inawashiro Lake is the fourth largest lake in Japan, with a circumference of 49 kilometers and an area of 103 square kilometers.

Incidentally, the restaurant I originally intended to visit was delicious and satisfying, but my table photos were extremely poor, so I will refrain from posting them to avoid causing any trouble for the restaurant.

In any case, I had a satisfying meal and took some enjoyable photos, so I’m in a great mood. Next, I’ll head north along the foot of Mt. Bandai toward Ura-Bandai area, one of the premier summer resorts in the Aizu region.
